review Nikkor 58mm 1.4G

Ok. this is the first time I am writing a review. The new Nikkor 58mm 1.4 G lens. I got this lens on month ago and since then it is on my Nikon Df. Why? Because I fell in love with this lens since the first day. I was always a 50mm guy. For me that is the perfect focal length. I was never very happy with the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 G lens. What I am looking for in a lens is character. I am not a pixelpeeper and do not read technical reviews. I want a lens to have character and something special. And I did not found that in the 50mm 1.4 G lens. So when I read about the 58mm I was very exited.

The 58mm 1.4 G is a premium Nikon lens and the built quality is what you can expect from Nikon G lenses.

In the first 2 pictures you can see the Nikkor 58mm 1.4 G on a Nikon Df.  On the second 2 pictures you see the old Noct-Nikkor 58mm 1.2. The new 58mm is actually quiet bigger than the old one.

The Nikkor 58mm 1.4 G is made for shooting it wide open. The bokeh is fantastic. Wide open it is not the sharpest Nikon lens, but the results are magic. Just have a look and you will see what I mean.

Of course you can stop it down also.

But for me it is meant to use wide open. Here are some more pics:

I absolutely love this lens and this will be my main lens for a long long time. It has character, punch and gives you fantastic results.

Cheers Leopold
